  1. This is an alpha release of FindFile, provided for public testing and input.  Thank you for lending a hand with the development of FindFile.  Your help is greatly appreciated.

  3. NOTE:
  4. Version 1.3a7 of FindFile changes the type of data that is output from file specification records to text paths.  In most cases, this should not effect your scripts directly, since valid paths can easily be coerced to file specifications. Read the "version history" file for more details.

  6. Enclosed you will find the following items:

  8.     Beta Testers Read Me First - This file
  9.                                             FindFile - The FindFile OSAX.  (Put into Scripting Additions)
  10.               FindFile Example - An example showing how to script FindFile
  11.                                  (uses BBEdit to display results )
  12.                FindFile ReadMe - The current draft of the FindFile documentation
  13.                    Simple Test - Another simple example of scripting FindFile
  14.                version history - Changes in FindFile to date
  15.                       Microcosm Bug Probe - Run this if you encounter a bug and send me the output
  16.              MacsBug For OS 7+ - MacsBug for System 7+ (Put into root of System Folder)
  17.              MacsBug For OS 8+ - MacsBug for System 8+ (Put into root of System Folder)

Please try to test every function of FindFile.   If you are able to reproduce a bug, run the enclosed "Microcosm Bug Probe" application. When you are asked to locate the application you are having a problem with, just choose FindFile. When asked to locate the preferences, hit cancel. Then save the output and send it to me along with a description of the steps you took to reproduce the bug.

  21. Also, if you find a crashing bug, I would be grateful if you would do the following:

  23. [1] Install the appropriate version of MacsBug
  24. [2] Restart your machine
  25. [3] Repeat the sequence that caused the crash
  26. [4] When MacsBug comes up, type "stdlog" (without the quotes)
  27. [5] Send me the resulting stdlog file (will be on your desktop) along with a detailed description of the steps you took to cause the crash

  29. This will be extremely helpful to me in finding and fixing the crashing bug.
